Posted on by Judy Molyneux

On 17th September Virtual School Kent held its 7th annual awards ceremony to celebrate the academic and personal achievements of children in care.

210 young people in care and care leavers received awards at the ceremony attended by carers, social workers, parents and council members. The awards were for various academic and personal achievements, ranging from excellent GCSE results to excelling in karate.

The day started with the Awards Ceremony for our KS1 and KS2 students which was led by Tony Doran, Headteacher of Virtual School Kent. This was followed by a BBQ lunch and entertainment for the children to enjoy which included a Rodeo Bull, Wrecking Ball, Total Wipe-out Inflatable, Archery, Craft stands and several Birds of Prey from Falconry South-East.

The raffle was drawn at 1.45pm with many prizes kindly donated by local attractions in Kent and all proceeds going towards future participation events for children in care and young care leavers.

Our guest speakers were Sophia Dunstan, VSK Participation Support Assistant who spoke about the Children in Care Councils and some of the fun events that took place during the summer break and Emma Jenkins from Kent Children’s University.

The following awards were presented:
