Over the last few months VSK have been working with the Specialist Teaching Service in Maidstone to create the event ‘Help Your School to Shine’. Last week the event ran with a packed room and the focus was on improving the well-being of school staff and pupils. There were a number of speakers – and the keynote address was given by Natasha Devon who is a national speaker/advocate for supporting good mental health for young people.
Speakers also included VSK! Jo Kelly and Amanda Ormond spoke about the VSK Nurture Group Project and celebrated the fact that:
- Over 100 Education professionals have now been trained in Nurture
- We are working towards nearly 50 schools opening their own Nurture Groups across Kent in the next two years, including some secondary and specialist schools
- Trained VSK staff are able to offer ongoing support for schools with their Nurture journey.
- And Repton Manor Primary has already achieved a Nurture UK Quality Mark, recognising their Nurture Group for its excellence.
It was fantastic to see that praise came in the same day for VSK’s work with schools to support our children’s emotional well-being.
Learnt about incredible and vital work of VSK nurture groups @VirtSchl_Kent at Maidstone STLS conference yesterday. Thank you #teacher5oclockclub
Additionally it was wonderful to have Helen Stollery from Nurture UK come all the way from Scotland to speak on how Nurture Groups can have a positive influence on reducing exclusions and improving attendance/engagement with education.
Finally - a big Thank You to all the schools who have been working as partners with VSK in our Nurture Group Project to bring about very positive changes for our vulnerable children in Kent.
